What do Chuck Jackson, Carly Simon, Dan Akroyd, Henry Butler,
Bo Diddley, Dennis Edwards and Eddie Kendricks (The Temptations),
and countless other artists all have in common? They have
all chosen to have Larry Baeder perform and collaborate with
them. Most recently, Larry served as Musical Director for
a show at New York’s famed Bottom Line, which starred
Isaac Hayes, Ashford & Simpson, Paul Simon, Dr. John,
Chuck Jackson, Ben E. King, Gary “U.S.” Bonds,
Mary Wilson, Musique, and others.
Right now, in addition to the tireless
attention that he gives to many industry greats, Larry is
focusing on his own career as a guitarist, singer, songwriter
and band leader -- a step that is long overdue. A result of
his musical excellence is that in his own band, Larry has
surrounded himself with some of the finest musicians in the
world. These musicians such as Charlie Torres on bass (Edgar
Winter, Rick Derringer, Buddy Miles) and Horacio “El
Negro” Hernandez on drums (Santana, Steve Winwood, Michelle
Camello), who all make up The Larry Baeder Group.
In addition to the release of his new
CD, “Maximo Strut” on the New Moon Blues label,
Larry and the Group have been touring all around the country,
performing songs from the CD. According to Alan Swyer who
wrote the liner notes for “Maximo Strut”, (Industry
historian, and producer of Ray Charles, and writer of liner
notes for Rhino Records)
"It seems like every few years,
when music’s in the doldrums, out of nowhere comes something
revitalizing - something startlingly new, yet so right it’s
amazing no one else thought of it or got there first . . .Now
here comes Larry Baeder adding a Cuban dimension to music
largely based on New Orleans R&B.”
-Alan Swyer
”Texas meets Memphis in Kansas
City and to watch Baeder work a crowd
is to see an artist creating a show, keeping the blues a living
thing.”
-The Staten Island Advance
